This was a good day.
Up with the dog at 5:00 a.m., I was able to clean the kitchen, run the dishwasher, update my blogs, watch a movie and then some West Wing, dry some bananas, and enjoy some alone time.
Since I was alone (the kids all baled on me early in the day), I went to Saturday night services for church. I like the hour, the people are energetic, and the kinks aren’t all worked out of the service which makes it feel more “spontaneous”. It was so good to see people from our small group there!
After the service, I returned home, grabbed my oldest, and went to sit in the lounge at Wolfies. We had a great time, shared a Reuben sandwich and some beers and talked as men do.
We arrived home to find Emily talking with her boyfriend on the front step and Ben playing video games. I don’t really remember how we got there but after listening to Ben’s summer marching band music, we jumped into a discussion about Steinbeck novels and why Ben doesn’t like The Pearl but loves The Grapes of Wrath and why I love The Pearl but DON’T like The Grapes of Wrath. Of course, that led to a mutual agreement that you have to read The Great Gatsby three times before you appreciate it. And why didn’t Emily’s class read Death of a Salesman?
I just love my kids.
