I Have This Girlfriend…

Anita, Jonathan and Curt. circa 1992

Why in the world she ever fell for me, I’ll never know.

My girlfriend and I started officially dating in October 1984.  It was a whirlwind romance.  It started with a little Bible study in a typing room on the 4rd floor of the Ball State Bracken Library and we never looked back.

What started as a little study and prayer turned into a romance and by August of 1985 we were walking down the aisle.

I would like to be the first to say that it wasn’t always easy, but my wife beats me to it every time.  Despite three kids, multiple jobs and various locations, through good and bad, with ups and downs, heartbreak and sorrow, anger and frustration, we’ve managed to do more than survive:  We’ve been able to thrive.

This woman, this fantastically brilliant, talented, beautiful woman has saved my life and made my life a true joy.  I can’t imagine going through life without her.

  1. Congrats on finding the woman of your dreams! When I first read this, I misread the sentence “I would like to be the first to say that it wasn’t always easy, but my wife beats me to it every time.” as “I would like to be the first to say that it wasn’t always easy, but my wife beats me every time.”

I have a question… you started dating in October 1984 (a month after my wife and I started dating – at Taylor University nearby) and the picture with Jonathan is circa 1992 and you were walking down the aisle in August 1995? Did you really have an 11-year courtship and have Jon 3 years before getting hitched? I thought perhaps you may have meant to say August 1985, as I doubt you’d describe an 11-year engagement as “whirlwind”, unless you’re Sid the Sloth. Or, you got married shortly after meeting your wife, then kept everyone waiting at the church for a decade before you finally walked down the aisle.

I need to start blogging so you can comment on my life experiences! 🙂
