Ephesians 1:1-2

“Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, to the saints in Ephesus, the faithful in Christ Jesus:  Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.”

I’m convinced that we need grace and peace now more than ever.  But that is probably because I’m living now and so I see things from my own perspective.

Imagine living in the age of the Roman Empire, when Christians were fed to the lions.  Grace and Peace would have been of high value then.

The Reformation could have benefited from a little Grace and Peace.

Just this past century alone had many days that Grace and Peace would have been valuable.

Put yourself in the days of World War II: Grace and Peace.

Nazi domination of Europe?  Grace and Peace.

Korea?  Vietnam? Gas shortages?  Iran Hostages?  Iraq and Afghanistan?  Peace and Grace, Grace and Peace.

Political rancor?  Gun control debate?  Roe v Wade? Religious Right and Liberal Left?  Grace and Peace.

Paul is writing to a church in a time when they needed Grace to love one another through the hardship that they faced.

Paul is addressing a church that faced difficult days, religious struggle and they needed Peace and reassurance that their journey was blessed.

What challenge are you facing today or tomorrow or this month that could benefit from a little Peace or a little Grace?
